Summer is almost over, soak up what is left!

08.28.18 Families, My Kids

As summer begins to unwind and life gets back to the steady routine of school and work. Shorter days will soon be here, the leaves will soon start to change and the days will turn colder. I can’t help but reflect on the beautiful (but rainy) summer of 2018. I spent most of the summer trying to find balance between work and play. I spent my weeks and weekends photographing all the weddings, families and high school Seniors. Yay for the Class of 2019. I spent time trying to soak up as much of what makes summer wonderful. Pool days, hiking, camping, time drinking coffee on my porch with my pup, all the sun filled runs with my girls. Our family concluded summer with a wonderful trip north to Lake Placid NY, Burlington VT and then a week in Madison NH. We spent days hiking the 2 highest peaks in New York and New Hampshire, gazing at waterfalls. scraping my shins as we descended. My favorite part was the slow pace of less technology and more time with family. Wishing to bring some of this into the school year.

Here is to wishing you all a fabulous (soon to be) fall! A post wouldn’t be a post without a picture, here is one from my family vacation!
Love, Elaine

How To Live Your Best Life

07.23.18 Families, HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Life moves way too fast. Our days are busy and won’t slow down for anyone. If you are anything like me, maybe you find yourself going through the motions of life and forgetting to enjoy each moment as it comes. Often, people claim they are “living their best life”, but what does that really mean? Here are 5 tips to help you take a step back each day and live your life the best way you can.

  1. Never turn down time with family. Even if you don’t feel like it, go on a walk with your mom when she asks. Go fishing with your dad. When you are older, you will miss these moments. Spend as much time with your family as possible.
  2. Wake up without technology. Don’t get on your phone the second you wake up. Get up, get some coffee and open the blinds. Take a deep breath without the pressure of replying, liking and sharing. Your notifications will still be there in 20 minutes.
  3. Be healthy. Stretch. Eat green food. Exercise plays a key part in mental health. Even just a long walk or some laps in the pool can drastically change your mood. Take care of your body and listen to it. (Even when it needs a rewarding ice cream cone.)
  4. Appreciate the small things. When you lay down each night find something you are thankful for and something good that happened that day. Every day will not be extravagant and ‘over the moon’ fun, but I guarantee there is something about everyday, you just have to take the time to realize it.
  5. Be a light. You will never regret being a nice person. You never know what someone else’s day involves and if you can be a positive part of their life, then what is more rewarding than that?

I hope these simple pieces of advice help you “live your best life” a little more. There are millions of ways to enjoy life but try starting with these 5. Now go take a walk, read a book, explore your town, and smile a little bigger today.

Central PA Gems Everyone Should Visit This Summer!

07.02.18 Engagements, Families

Summertime: a time when the sun stays up for longer, the weather stays hot and I inevitably get the world’s worst sunburn.  With summer comes a lot of great things though like BBQ’s, pool openings, and my absolute favorite, summer trips. For me, trips are all about the experience, not just the distance. Here are my top five spots to visit this summer in Central PA!

City Island, Harrisburg

Can you really say you’re from Central PA and admit you have never been to City Island? It’s a landmark for our area, but it’s for sure one of the best! There is so much to do on the island including baseball games, fireworks, putt putt and occasionally a 5k race running through! If you are looking for something to do, look no further than the middle of the river to this lively island.

Paulus Farm Market Farm Park, Mechanicsburg

This is one of my secret little gems I only discovered a few years ago. If you ever have a desire to see farm animals like goats, llamas, and many more, this is the place for you. These animals are very friendly and are always ready to take a selfie. They always put a smile on my face and I’m sure they will for you too!

Wildwood Park, Harrisburg

Located right between suburban and urban Harrisburg, Wildwood Park is a haven for many species of plants and animals and is one of the most beautiful places. The park has many rambling trails around the lake that guides you around wildlife in its natural setting. The paths were made into boardwalks, making this the perfect spot to bring everyone in your family. It is also a great place to bring your camera for some amazing pictures!

Haars Drive-In Theater, Dillsburg

For 66 years, Haar’s Drive-In has been a right of passage for many Central Pennsylvanians. Unlike other theaters, the Drive-In is an experience beyond the movie. In order to get a spot, you must get to the lot early. After you get a spot is when to fun begins. Don’t be afraid to bring something fun for everyone to do before it gets dark. Trust me, this place is worth a visit.

Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach, Mt. Gretna

Summer days are best spent on the beach. Luckily we have Mt. Gretna close by! With eight acres of beach, there is plenty of spots for you to spend a sunny day on the water. This lake has all the amenities one could want plus more. With Kayak rentals available as well as multiple water attractions, this beach is boats full of fun – literally.

I am always looking for places to go on my next road trip. I want to hear what your favorite travel destinations are- both local and far. Feel free to reach out to me!
