Choosing Outfits for Senior Portraits
Choosing Outfits for Senior Portraits
It can be intimidating to choose outfits for photos that will most likely be hung up in your parent’s house for many, many years. You want to look stylish for the times, but stay away from choosing anything too trendy that will leave you wondering “What was I thinking?”. Here are a few rules of thumb below for choosing outfits for your senior pictures that will photograph well and look fabulous!
Choose Earthy Neutrals or Pastel Colors
Since your photos will mostly likely be taken outdoors, I always suggest choosing earthy or pastel neutral colors that will blend nicely with the scenery and season. But, you can also choose your favorite colors that you feel most “you” in! Another tip is to stick with solid colors as opposed to patterns and prints.
Consider Movement
You may be walking, sitting, or standing in your photos so be sure to choose outfits that you feel comfortable in and like the look of from multiple different angles. If you find yourself adjusting it with every step, then you may want to opt for a more comfortable option! Of course, I’ll be on the lookout for any fashion faux pas, falling straps, etc.
Bring Multiple Outfits
I always tell seniors to bring multiple outfits for a 1+ hour session. Bring a casual and dressier outfit in order to have multiple different looks. For girls, this could be jeans and a top as well as a dress. For guys, jeans and tee along with shorts and button up would look great! You can always factor in the location of your outfits to help judge how “fancy” your dressier outfit has to be.
Most importantly, wear what you love and feel the best in! These photos are about capturing you as you head into your next chapter in life! I am so excited for you as you approach your senior year!
